Track Biography:
Rathnestin was built in 1820 in Tallanstown in the heart of Co. Louth, and has a long-standing history deeply embedded in horse racing and country pursuits. For over 40 Years the Rathnestin racecourse has been noted for its well staged and successful Point to Point meetings, including the home to the Louth Hunt Point to Point from 1976 to 2015.
This year Rathnestin looks forward to welcoming the inaugural Rathnestin Oriel Harriers Hunt Point to Point, which will be held over the 2018 May Bank Holiday Weekend, The Hunt Club has been going strong since its formation in the early seventies and meets every Sunday throughout the winter.
Rathnestin is a good galloping course with an extensive view for the spectators. A left-handed circuit of just over a mile. It has two long straights, two gradual bends with five fences, two downhill one leading to home, which produces many the exciting tight finish to get the crowd roaring.
This will be a great day out in the countryside for people to come together to enjoy the sporting action and to socialise whilst enjoying food-on-the go, outdoor fun, picnics and lots of interesting trade stands.
How To Get There
By Road
From Dublin: Take M1 northbound, at Junction 15 take the R166 exit to Tallanstown / Castlebellingham, follow the signposts for Tallanstown, the racecourse will be signposted from there.
From Belfast: Take M1 southbound, at Junction 15 take the R166 exit to Tallanstown / Castlebellingham, follow the signposts for Tallanstown, the racecourse will be signposted from there.
From Ardee: Head north on N2, at the Carrickmacross road roundabout take 2nd exit onto R171 to Tallanstown, follow the road to Tallanstown, the racecourse will be signposted from there.
From Carrickmacross: Head south on N2 for 7.3KM , turn left onto the L5174 signposted Louth Village, follow this road, the racecourse will be signposted from there.
By Air
Dublin airport is only 50 minutes away and Belfast airport is 1hr 20 minutes away , both with the M1 motorway.
