Track Biography:

Ballysteen Point-to-Point is held under the auspices of Stonehall Harriers Hunt.  Stonehall Harriers celebrated their centenary in 2011, having been founded in 1911. Having held a point-to-point in Askeaton for many years, the Stonehall Harriers began holding the Ballysteen Point-to-Point on 4 May 1996.  Originally an evening meeting in May, the meeting moved to a Sunday in April after about 10 years. The point-to-point has run every year since 1996, with the exception of 2001.

Michael O’Shaughnessy, Master of the Hunt, has been in his position since 1953, and he remains actively involved in the Stonehall Harriers and the point-to-point.

Ballysteen Point-to-Point has been held on a family farm since its inception in 1996.  The course is left-handed, with three circuits (totalling three miles) and 15 fences per race.

Many winners in Ballysteen have progressed beyond point-to-points, including Celtic Native, Monksland and the famous Faugheen.  Faugheen won his first race at Ballysteen.

MOUNT GUNNERY ran well on his debut as did West Of The Edge and although the former gets preference here there is in truth very little to separate this pair.

CASTLE FALLS ran well behind the useful looking Fromthetop last time when third and that form stands out here. Sea Diamond has form at this level also when third to Captain Canada which brings him into the equation. Luck Of The Irish is stepping up from maiden company which will be interesting.

ORAHILLY ROW has long looked above maiden winning material and this could be the chance he needs to get off the mark. Icthec has run well on both outings to date and is a real danger while Mister Spingsprong and Mulligans Man have some very strong form also.

ABUSIVE BUDDY ran well in a decent Kilmallock maiden but will be wary of Ballynalty Point who returns from a near three year layoff. Boardwalk Empire on his best form would be a leading candidate.

A very tough contest to call with narrow margins between Carthalawn who has won three, Pocket Reader who was second last time, The Blarney Rose and Robyns Pride are two of the best mares with hunter certs and Bishops Lane beat a useful field at Durrow last time. GALE FORCE OSCAR however is on something of a roll at the moment and could be capable of stepping into Open company successfully on his first attempt.

The Bishops Day has interesting track form on her return here could go well. Rainbow Trout was not beaten far at Kilmallock last time and Ozark Moon was placed at Stradbally. MULLANES BRIDGE however was a close second at Kilmallock and is close enough to suggest she is now ready to go on and win. Caoimhes Delight may be her biggest danger
