Track Biography:

The records show The Fermanagh Harriers Point to Point Steeplechases began an annual fixture as far back as 1905, when the races were held at Dunbar outside Enniskillen. This is the location of our annual Boxing Day Hunt today!

Over the years the venue has changed once or twice but it has been held at the current location, Necarne Castle, since 1999.

Necarne Castle is located adjacent to the town of Irvinestown and it is with the kind permission of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council thet we have been able to avail of this excellent venue.

Traditionally our Two-day meeting takes place Early-Mid May, which normally leads to some added excitement as various riders are usually vieing for the jockeys championship at this closing stage of the season.

Course preparation and the running of the point to point is all done on a voluntary basis by the members of the Hunt

WHIPCORD ran well to finish a very close third at Largy last month having shown plenty of pace to race prominently throughout, and that experience should stand to him here. Game Puppeteer ran well for a long way at Ballysteen on debut and that effort is sure to bring him on, whilst Robintheaulad was not far off when coming down in the closing stages at Dromahane last month. Some nicely bred newcomers are sure to be a big threat.

FOLDUF may well be a twelve-year-old, however he still retains plenty of enthusiasm for the game having finished placed on his last three starts, including a decent second at Open level last time. This is a significant drop in grade and he can return to winning ways here. Stable companion Ashdale Lad is likely next best, whilst Ser Sandor and Scarvas Cindy both have place claims.

BILBO BAGGINS ran a big race on debut at Durrow before coming to grief at the last whilst upsides the short-priced favourite. That horse has since won again to frank that form and it looks difficult to oppose the selection here. Western Climate was below par in deep ground at Laurencetown, however he has shown real promise on both starts prior to that effort and a return to his best would see him as the main danger. Harodale ran well on debut at Taylorstown, whilst Backoftherock has finished second twice and both are dangers.

CHOSEN DREAM was impressive when running out a wide-margin winner at Largy last month and he may just have enough to take a competitive race. Carsonstown Boy was a tad disappointing in the Joseph O?Reilly last time, but has to be feared on his Cheltenham form. The selection has a bit in hand over Mr Bolt on the form line through Muirhead, whilst Current Exchange won his fourth Open of the year over the Banks at Athlacca last Saturday, however he does seem a more competitive sort over the Banks and may have a bit to find against this opposition.

MAPLE MONS has finished in the first two on her last six starts including a much deserved third career success over subsequent winner Without Wings at Largy last month with that mare re-opposing here as the main danger. A model of consistency, Maple Mons is taken to finish off an excellent Spring campaign in style. Kinnacally has 8 lengths to find with the selection, but that was her first start out of maiden company and she may be able to get closer here.

DARSINDIAN finished tailed off at Taylorstown a fortnight ago, however he had a hard race at Largy just a week prior to that disappointing effort which might explain that poor showing. With an extra week to recover ahead of this, he gets the tentative vote here. Tareesh Lane returns from a long lay-off, however he has shown ability in the past, and if primed for this he has to be considered on what is his first outing for a very-much in-form stable. Torran Na Dtonn caught the eye on debut at Templemore, and he is worth a second look.
