Track Biography:
The Galway Blazers have a long history of holding a point-to-point dating back over a hundred years. The hunt dates from the beginning of the 19th century and has established itself as one of the famous Irish Hunts due to the goodwill and generosity of farmers and landowners throughout the county.
We run two meetings a year at Dartfield just outside Loughrea with the first one taking place in October and the second fixture being held in April. The course is situated at Dartfield Horse Museum and heritage centre which is set on 350 acres of parkland just forty minutes from Galway city.
Over the years, Loughrea point-to-point has produced many top national hunt stars such as Bewleys Berry, Boys Hurrah, Brindisi Breeze, Never Compromise and King Johns Castle.
How To Get There
By Road
From the Dublin take the M6 as far as the Ballinasloe West exit 15, and continue on the N6 towards Loughrea/Galway as far as Kilreekil village. Dartfield is half a mile beyond the village on the right hand side of the N6.
From Galway take the M6 and exit at Junction 16 for Loughrea. After approx. three miles on the access road you arrive at a roundabout, take the first exit. Continue past the Portumna Junction for less than a mile, and the entrance to Dartfield will be on your left.
By Air
Loughrea is situated 30 minutes from Galway airport and an hour and 50 minutes from Dublin airport.

SCORESHEET was running a race full of promise on debut at Dromahane back in April before coming down at the last whilst holding a highly creditable second position at the time. Following a Summer break, he brings the strongest Points form to the table. Game Puppeteer ran a fine race on debut to finish third at Ballysteen, and a return to that level would see him hold claims. There are a number of interesting newcomers that are sure to get involved, and they are worth close inspection in the preliminaries.

Redbridge Rudi will have fitness on his side having finished second at Toome on the opening day of the season, however this looks a race where newcomers are likely to play a leading role in.

Pat Doyle has enjoyed a strong start to the season and CAITLIN BROOK who makes her debut for his yard, could continue that form. Placed three times over hurdles when with Stephen Ryan, the Alderbrook mare could be tough to beat if re-capturing her best following an absence. Red Flight finished a fine second at Castletown in a race that has already received a form boost, as her conqueror, Miss Coley, won again last Sunday. The Colin Bowe-trained pair showed signs of promise and whichever he runs has to be respected.

THE HARD HAT was in scintillating form at Castletown a fortnight ago and as that run sees him ahead of a number of his potential rivals here, a reproduction of that run entitles him to take this. Luska Lad and Cootamundra are both held by the selection on their last run, however the latter is expected to have improved following his re-appearance run. Sydney Paget has held multiple entries over the past number of weeks and if connections choose to run this formerly 145 rated chaser here, he would have to be highly respected.

VALHALLA could not have been any more impressive when making a winning debut at Rathcannon on the opening weekend of the season, and if he repeated that performance, he will be very tough to beat here. Bold Bachelor returns from a spell under rules during the Summer and is likely to offer the greatest challenge to the selection. Concert Night, Teds Island and Ourson have all been placed at this level in the past, and they are all solid types with place claims.

GOOD MAN HUGHIE showed real promise when finishing second at Cregg on his debut 10 months ago, and if he can overcome an absence here he would be entitled to take this. Agent For Chaos has a great deal more experience than the selection to call upon, including a brace of placed efforts from last season and he will be a strong alternative. Western Climate would be a contender on his Oldcastle run and he has the benefit of a recent run to his name, whilst Moonlightinmayo is another place contender on this pick of his form.
