Track Biography:

The firsts set of National Hunt Committee rules were published in 1889 and Kilkenny Hunt with its long illustrious history of holding point-to-point meets can trace its first meeting back to then. Point-to-point meetings were held under the master ship of Ikey Bell at Lacken, near Bonnettstown in 1909 and from 1914 meetings were at Bishopslough.

Thereafter meetings continued to circulate around the country, 1926 in Ballyfacey, 1927 Rahelty, 1948 Stonecarthy, 1949-1959 Wollengrange, Gowran 1960-1989. From there the point-to-point moved to Brambelstown and Kilbline and then to its current location in Grennan, Thomastown.

We hold two meetings during the season, one in November and one in May. Our tracks over the years have seen many winners go on to establish themselves amongst the elite of the racing world, dual Welsh National winner Mountainous and Tranquil Sea to name but a few.

The Colin Bowe yard is in top form at present following a fine victory at Cheltenham last weekend and that success could continue here with FARM THE ROCK. An eye-catching second on debut at Ballindenisk late last season, he is the clear form pick for this. Stablemate Land League has run twice this season so will hold a fitness edge over many of these, whilst Le Fou Royal could be the main danger. An early casualty at Dowth Hall last weekend, he had finished placed behind Bacardys and Ballyoisin and that looks top form.

RED FLIGHT finished a promising second to subsequent winner Miss Coley on her re-appearance at Castletown last month and he is given a second chance here to bounce back from a somewhat disappointing effort at Loughrea last time. Rock Solid should come on for his debut effort at Tinahely which would bring him into contention for this, whilst Last Pop was a fine second at Curraheen last season and a re-production of that would not see her as a live danger.

BREEZEMOUNT made a very smart debut to finish second at Loughrea a fortnight ago and he would be the one to beat here if reproducing that performance. Carraig Thuathail would be the principal danger having also finished second at Loughrea, but in the older maiden on that card. The Mighty Ash has been placed on his last two starts, whilst Brass In Pocket is another with placed form to his name and both have place claims.

DAVYROY is a dual Points winner including when impressively taking a competitive heat at Punchestown in 2014. Returning from an absence here, if he can go close to the level of that Punchestown performance, he will be tough to oppose from a very-much in-form yard. Likeable Rogue won well at Durrow but is also returning from an absence, so it may fall to Bold Bachelor, a maiden winner around here in 2014 to offer the chief opposition, whilst The Admiral Benbow is another danger.

FORJOETHEPUMBLER was narrowly denied in a thrilling finish at Dromahane on Sunday, and providing he is not inconvenienced by the quick turnaround, he receives the selection here. Gullivar was a three-time winner last season, and this admirable sort rarely runs a bad race which will surely see him go close. October Revolution was a winner at Rathcannon, whilst Storm Survivor took the 2013 Summer National and is an interesting recruit for the Halley team.

KING WILLIE was placed in a maiden hurdle during the Summer, and he could take beating in this if re-capturing that form. Colgrave Sound is a regular around here and he has four placed runs between the flags to his name, which entitles him to get involved. Agent For Chaos has a similar profile and has strong place claims, whilst Elusive Classic was placed last time and looks to be progressing.
