Track Biography:
It is with thanks to William Duffy and the Duffy Family that this wonderful facility has been made available to The Ward Union to host this important meeting on the point-to-point calendar.
Based on the foresight and dedication of such stalwarts as Standish Collen and the Craigie Family back in 1963, together with the technical skills of Clerks of the Course Ted Kelly and Al O’Connell, The Folly became known as a fair but testing challenge for horse and rider. This high standard is maintained today by the present Clerk of the Course, Paddy Griffin and his Team.
After a break from 1974 The Folly welcomed back The Ward Union in 2012. In the intervening years various other venues were used but thanks to the generosity of the Duffy Family The Folly has again become the ‘Home’ venue. This is a worthy tribute to the memory of John A. Duffy and his neighbour and friend Pat Rooney.
The solid foundations laid down by this of yesteryear still stand as values held high by The Ward Union organisation of today.
A track like The Folly gives us all the opportunity to see young hopefuls fight it out for glory and it is likely you can watch the same horses and riders competing at the highest level a year or two later, even at Cheltenham itself.
How To Get There
By Road
From Slane directions - Straight through Ashbourne, as you leave the town on the Dublin road, you will come to a big roundabout, take first left (signed for Swords) off this which is the R125 Donaghmore road, follow this road for about 2.5 miles until you meet a crossroads, take the left for Garristown it’s the R130 follow this road straight for about 3 miles and you till come to ‘The Folly’ on the right hand side.
Coming from Ratoath road, it’s the second exit off the roundabout to R125 (follow directions above)
Coming from North Road/ M50 it’s the 4th exit of roundabout onto R125 (follow directions above)

The well-bred Cause Toujours is a half-brother to Graded winner Analifet, whilst many of the leading yards are represented here, and so it will be the market which gives a good indicator of what is expected from them.

THE PUNISHER created a very favourable impression when finishing second behind Minella Beau at Lisronagh and he likely sets the standard for this. Castle On A Cloud finished second in a small field contest at Liscaroll in March on debut behind Stowaway Magic who has since joined Nicky Henderson, whilst Tyrrells Succes chased home the impressive Bach De Clermont at Loughanmore back in October, and that pair ensure that this could be a very competitive contest. Meanwhile Sergeant Brody has two decent placed runs to his name, whilst newcomers Monbeg Chit Chat and Rainy Day Dylan are also of note.

BOBBYTHEGANGSTER was unlucky to come down three fences from home at Ballyvodock last Sunday when a warm favourite, and providing that this run does not come too soon for him, he is the selection for this having comfortably held the re-opposing Our Commander at Tinahely last month. The Cub has been largely campaigned on Good ground, so providing he copes with conditions here, he has been a consistent performer who was last seen finishing third over fences at Downpatrick.

MARITO has been untouchable in the Point-to-Point / Hunter Chase division to date and was an effortless winner of the Hunter Chase at Down Royal over Christmas where he had a number of these in behind him including Noble Prince, Not Before Eight and Current Exchange. Aupcharlie is the chief danger, although he holds an easier engagement at Tyrella. If running here he has to be respected with placed Grade 1 form to his name. Marasonnien was unsighted on his Open debut at Killeagh, however he was returning from an absence and is worth another chance.

SPARKLING RIVER was very unlucky to be taken out by a loose horse at the midway point at Ballyvodock last Sunday and she is most deserving of a maiden success here following two smart second placed efforts at Tattersalls and Tinahely. Clondaw Nell brings solid four-year-old form from Autumn to this race and will not be far away, whilst Lucy Mc has just 3 lengths to find on the selection on their meeting at Tinahely last month.

GANDHI has twice finished placed to date including at Ballyarthur in April in a race which has already produced three subsequent maiden winners. This is his first start in older maiden company and represents a slight drop in class which could well provide him with a first success. Singing Banjo caught the eye staying on late at Tinahely last month, and so this track could allow him to take another step forward, whilst Jimmy Shoe holds claims on his Maralin form.
