Track Biography:

We run a two-day point-to-point each spring beside the grounds of Durrow Abbey House and Durrow Church which was founded by St Columba in 553.

The back straight runs right in front of the beautiful Durrow Abbey House and makes the point-to-point one of the most picturesque meetings in Ireland. The grounds of our well-presented race track, with its compact location of parade ring, bookies, finish line and services give a pleasant race day experience close to the action.

Our point-to-point is located 10 minutes away from the town of Tullamore which has an abundance of pubs and restaurants as well as plenty of shops and popular tourist attractions such as Tullamore’s large distillery which makes Tullamore Dew, a popular Irish whiskey.

How To Get There

By Road

From Dublin: Take the N4 and then the M4 towards Sligo/Galway/N5/N6. Continue on the M6, follow signs for Galway/Athlone. At junction 5, take the N52 exit to Tullamore/Kilbeggan. At roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto N52.

From Galway: Follow the M6 motorway, Exit at junction 6 for Kilbeggan. Once off the motorway, take the N52 Kilbeggan to Tullamore road. Durrow is three miles from this exit on the right hand side.

By Air

Our point-to-point is located an hour and ten minutes from Dublin airport.

CALL HER MAGIC is a half-sister to Call It Magic who won a maiden Point and Bumper for the same connections, and she could be worth a chance on her debut. Spring Pools represents Gordon Elliott on her debut and will have to be respected hailing from that powerful yard, whilst Doesntbotherme sets the standard of those with form to their name having finished a fine second at Oldtown a fortnight ago.

MAKEAPOINT caused an upset when winning at Lisronagh in December in testing conditions, and he could have ground conditions to suit him. With the most unexposed profile in the race, he may hold the key to the outcome. Can U See Me Now is proven at a higher level between the flags, however he is returning from an absence, whilst Teds Island was well held last Sunday at Punchestown, however he will likely come on for that run.

LADY BROWN began the season well with a brace of placed efforts including a narrow defeat at Dowth Hall, and whilst she has lost her way somewhat on her latest two starts, a return to older mares company could see her bounce back to form. Mrs Jay Dee is the unexposed element in the line-up having finished second on debut at Ballinaboola, whilst Taboo was narrowly beaten at Grennan, although the winner of that race has struggled to frank the form since.

CARRIGEEN ACEBO was a very easy winner at Nenagh in a similar contest in January and last seasons joint-Champion Pointer will likely be the one to beat here. Luska Lad was a winner just seven days ago at Punchestown, Likeable Rogue is a previous course winner, whilst Sizing Australia won well on his latest start and he could prove to be the main danger to Carrigeen Acebo.

ZARACHIEL has been a consistent sort to date finishing third on both career starts including at Nenagh last month when a well-backed favourite. This is a notable drop down in grade and he should be more than capable of obliging on what he has produced to date. The newcomer Noonaro could be the main danger as he is a half-brother to the Grade 2 winner Ned Stark.

NOVO DAWN bumped into an above average older maiden winner at Tyrella a fortnight ago and it will take another above average performance to defeat him as he looks the obvious selection for this. Didarro finished a promising second behind the well-supported favourite Glencairn View at Belharbour earlier in the month and he looks the obvious danger on that form, whilst Intheghetto and Johnnyonepunch are fellow place contenders.
