Track Biography:

East Down Foxhounds Point-to-Point course at Tyrella is situated at the foot of the picturesque Mourne Mountains made famous by the Percy French song.

With the 2018 Spring season, East Down will have been racing at Tyrella for fifty four years. Two meetings are held each Spring, in January and March.

Normally the first meeting of the Spring calendar in the Northern Region, Tyrella is a right handed undulating track where, given it’s close proximity to the sea and sandy soil is well drained and more often than not, produces good going.

How To Get There

By Road

From The South:
Take the M1 North from Dublin. In Newry take the A25 through Rathfriland. In Clough at T junction go right and immediately left to get to Tyrella.

From the West:
Leave the M1 at Lisburn (junction 6). Take the A1 turning off at Hillsborough. Follow the signs to Ballynahinch and then follow the signs for Newcastle. Go through Seaforde village and then Clough. At the end of Clough Main Street turn left, following the sign for Tyrell. The course is on the right after about four miles.

From the North:
Take the M2 to Belfast. Continue on to the M1. Leave the M1 at Lisburn (junction 6). Take the A1 turning off at Hillsborough. Follow the signs to Ballynahinch and then follow the signs for Newcastle. PATSY MILAN showed real promise when finishing fourth against geldings in a four-year-old maiden at Rathannon on the opening weekend of the season and the switch back to competing against her own sex could be rewarded. Alkajazz has course form to her name having finished a close second around here in February, and so she will give the selection a strong challenge. Isnt She Lovely twice finished placed last season, however she would need to overcome a slightly below par effort at Necarne on her seasonal re-appearance here.

BORUING UP A STORM has been in top form this season winning three-times and he can bounce back to winning ways here having finished fifth at Clonmel last time. Clondaw Frisby was a very easy winner over course and distance back here in February, and so he has course form in his favour, although this will likely be a much stronger contest. Adamstown catches the eye on his return from a long lay-off, and having finished placed in a Bumper on his latest competitive outing, if he is primed for the run he will likely be involved, whilst Shake It Up has run well on the track and is a danger.

Preview

NOVO DAWN was disappointing last Saturday at Armagh when only finishing fifth, however he has previous course form around here from February and the return to this flatter track ensures that he is worth taking a second chance on. Market Road could well be seen to better effect having gained experience when fourth around here last time, whilst Sarsfields Legend has plenty of placed form to his name, however he is returning from an absence.
