Track Biography:

Formed in November 1996, the Premier Harriers began running a point-to-point at Horse & Jockey in 2002, and as the name suggests, the surrounding area in the heart of Tipperary is deeply entrenched in the horse racing community.

Our annual point-to-point typically takes place on the Sunday before the Cheltenham Festival, and it is the perfect way to warm up for the Olympics of National Hunt racing. We have been blessed to have seen many future stars begin their journey to the top of the racing sport.

War of Attrition, Gold Cup hero in 2006, begun his racing career between the flags at our point-to-point in 2003. Seabass, who guided Katie Walsh to the highest placed finish for a lady rider in 2012 Aintree Grand National, won his maiden at our 2007 race meeting, whilst Minella Roccco, who finished second in the 2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup, won his maiden here in 2014. Just four days after which he was sold for £260,000 at the Cheltenham Festival Sales.

That is one of the real attractions of our point-to-point. It gives you the opportunity to get up close and personal with the future stars of the racing world in a relaxed and family friendly environment.

Put your wellies on and come to the picturesque Premier county to enjoy a day of fantastic horse racing !

The Colin McKeever-trained JERRYSBACK is the only runner in the 19-strong line-up with previous competitive experience to his name which will stand to him here having finished fourth at Kirkistown on debut. As with all races of this nature, the market will give a good guide of where the newcomers are likely to slot in on their debuts.

MEDAL OF FREEDOM ran well to finish third in a reasonably competitive contest at Ballinaboola in the Autumn and he appears to have the standout form coming into this. The mare Vulgans Watch was slightly below par at Borris before Christmas having finished placed at Glenbane on her penultimate start. A return to that promise would allow her to hold claims.

CARRIGEEN KIGELIA is back between the flags following a spell under rules which saw her finish placed four times including on her latest three outings. Unbeaten in points having made a winning debut at Laurencetown, she looks the one to follow here. Finnegans Hollow won his maiden at Punchestown last month and is showing signs of stepping-up, whilst Cada Club was another maiden winner last time out when taking an adjacent contest at Durrow.

RINGRONE CASTLE was in top-form in the Autumn when winning three on the bounce, and whilst he has slightly lost his way of late, a return to his best could ensure that he is worth taking a chance on. Drawn N Drank and Big Jer have both won Open contests in recent weeks, whilst Dantes King will likely be a more competitive sort here having been returning from an absence when pulling-up at Punchestown last month.

WILMS WARRIOR is multiply entered right across the weekend and she looks the likely winner of her maiden at whichever engagement she takes up having finished an encouraging third on debut at Dromahane in the Autumn. Cloneen Dream comes into this race in good form having finished second at Ballyvodock in late January, whilst Katies Hen has plenty of experience to draw upon and if she bounced back to her best, she could hold claims.
