Track Biography:

The County Down hunt have been in existence since the early 1900’s. We have held our point-to-point meeting at Loughbrickland for over 70 years by kind permission of the Kidd family. Our autumn meeting is run in November each year with our spring fixture taking place in April.

Over the years, Loughbrickland point-to-point has produced many top national hunt stars such as 2003 Aintree Grand national winner Bindaree and Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Truckers Tavern.

One of the real attractions of point-to-point racing is the opportunity to get up close and personal with the future stars of the racing world in a relaxed and family friendly environment.

Our point-to-point is located 15 minutes away from the picturesque Slieve Gullion Forest Park which has something for all of the family including woodland trails, stunning views across the Ring of Gullion, Mourne Mountains, Cooley Peninsula and Armagh Drumlins as well as a play park and tour guides of the park.

How To Get There

By Road

From Dublin – Take the M1 and then exit onto the A1. Loughbrickland is approx. 15 minutes north of Newry. The village is on the left hand side and from there turn right following the signs to get to the track.

By Air

Our point-to-point is located one hour and 15 minutes from Dublin airport and 50 minutes from Belfast International airport.

SHANTOU ROCK is very unlucky to remain a maiden following two starts, as he held the advantage at Castletown earlier this month when making a bad mistake which cost him his chance at a deserved opening success. The Denis Murphy-trained Path To Freedom is next best in term of previous form, whilst the many well-bred newcomers engaged here are sure to be contenders.

This could be an ideal opportunity for ALKAJAZZ to finally get off the mark following four placed efforts this season. Shaluna was unlucky to come down at the last on her debut at Monksgrange in very testing conditions having been holding a strong position at the time, so she is sure to excel on the ground here and that would leave her as the chief danger to Alkajazz.

BRINDACIER FATAL holds a number of engagements right across the weekend and whichever venue he appears at, he is sure to go close as the well-bred son of Network finished a highly encouraging second on debut at Tallow in early February. Forever Dylan has some solid form behind him, however it may fall to Wither Or Not to present the biggest danger to the selection as he has finished second on no fewer than four occasions.

QUIET ACCOUNT could make a quick re-appearance here following a very comfortable success at Bellurgan Park just 6 days ago and he would be the one to beat if doing so. Sam Da Vinci and Anseanachai Cliste are closely matched on their run at Loughanmore over Easter, whilst Sizing Chile would be an intriguing participant here on his debut in Open company following an impressive success at Monksgrange last time.

MYSTIC THEATRE was very impressive when recording her maiden success at Loughanmore over Easter and she could be very tough to beat here. KATIES OSCAR caused a big upset when taking the mares Open on that same card on Easter Monday, however she is more exposed than the selection, whilst Kinnacally, another Loughanmore Easter Monday is another place danger.

WITHER OR NOT looks the clear standout performer in this contest having filled the runners-up spot on four occasions in addition to a placed effort in a Bumper during the Summer, and this would look the ideal opportunity for him to get off the mark. Cabragh has finished placed on three occasions already this season, so he is the likely the chief danger to the selection
