Track Biography:

The Mid-Antrim Hunt was formally set up in the 1870’s as a harrier pack, although it was in existence for at least a hundred years before that. It was believed to have had its first official meeting in The Thatch Pub in Broughshane in 1875.

The Mid Antrim point-to-point Course is just outside Moneyglass very close to Toomebridge. Toome or Toomebridge (from Irish: Tuaim, meaning "tumulus"), is a small village and townland on the northwest corner of Lough Neagh in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Moneyglass was at one time home to Malachy McCourt and his family who was the father of Frank McCourt, author of Angela's Ashes, a winner of The Pulitzer Prize, the NBCC Award, The LA Times Award and the Royal Society of Literature Award.
 
Champion National Hunt jockey and 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year winner, Tony McCoy, who received an OBE in 2010, was born in Moneyglass.

Another sports star reared in Moneyglass was world famous Rugby Union player Willie John McBride who capped for Ireland on 63 occasions which includes 12 times as Captain.

By Road:

From Belfast, take the M2 towards Antrim. Toomebridge is 45 minutes from Belfast city.

From Dublin, take the M1 towards Belfast. From Belfast take the M2.

By Air

Toomebridge is located two hours and 15 minutes from Dublin airport and 30 minutes from Belfast airport.

There is not a lot of previous form lines on offer in this contest, with SHANTOU HALL who finished sixth at Ballysteen perhaps brining the strongest form to the table. He is sure to have progressed over the Summer and is of interest. Celebrity Status ran in some decent early four-year-old contests last term, whilst Slate House was sent off as favourite for his debut in a hot maiden at Loughanmore. It will be interesting to see how he fares here. The newcomers are likely capable of landing significant challenges.

KNOCKALAYDE SNO CAT was touched off by a short-head at both Cartmel and Perth during the Summer, and that track form should see her more than capable of winning a maiden. Askyourmammy was a very consistent performer last season on Good ground, finishing in the placings on her last four starts. She is surely not far off achieving a deserved maiden success. Princess Mononoke holds an easier engagement at Castletown on Sunday but would be a serious threat if taking up this engagement.

VALMY BAIE was one of the leading Open performers around last season, winning at Kirkistown, The Pigeons and Maralin, and he can certainly put it up to the ex-track performers who may line up against him here. Sizing Solution finished placed at both Punchestown and Killarney during the Summer, and that more recent race fitness could aid him on his return between the flags, whilst Dr Moloney was only beaten by a length on two occasions at Perth during the Summer, and he is an interesting alternative here.

HAZINOWINGS was still in front when crashing out at the third-last at Ballingarry at the end of last season having previously dead-heated for his maiden success at Maralin, and he could be the narrow selection. Theatre One was unable to get involved on the track during the Summer, however he had finished placed at Loughanmore just under a year ago, and is competitive in this company.

ARTHROPOD finished a close second in a Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel 12 months ago to the day, and whilst he lost his way somewhat in three subsequent starts, he is worth taking a chance with here. Theatre One finished placed at Loughanmore in winners company last year, and whilst he was no match for his rivals on the track during the summer, a maiden between the flags could be well within his capabilities. The Brandy Man has changed stables during the Summer and he has a host of placed form to his name which would see him go close if back to his best.
