Track Biography:

The Route hunt have held point-to-point meetings at a number of venues since the 1930’s, before returning to their traditional picturesque venue of Portrush in 2016.

Previous track winners to have won at Portrush include one of the most talked about national hunt horses in training at the moment, Finian’s Oscar who won his four-year-old maiden at Portrush in October 2016 before selling for £250,000 at the Cheltenham sale the following month.

The charming Portrush is a holiday destination for many people, boosting the Famous Barry's amusements. Near the Giants Causeway, Dunluce Castle and Bushmills Distillery to name a few places of interest. The seaside town of Portrush is the ideal venue for an event of this nature as there is plenty of accommodation, so why not spend the weekend in the North of Ireland while taking in the point-to-point racing. 


 

How To Get There

By Road

From Coleraine - on the A29 Ring Road towards Portrush at the last roundabout on the ring road take the last exit for Portrush, 200 yards on the left is the Loguestown road. The track is located approx. 1.5 miles on the Loguestown Road at the junction of the Roselick Road.

By Air

Portrush point-to-point is located an hour from Belfast International airport and 45 minutes form the city of Derry airport.

The Colin Bowe-trained ALONE NO MORE was running a big race on his debut as he was a final fence faller at Tinahely whilst putting up a bold challenge to the eventual winner Manitowoc County. A repeat of that effort would see him go close. Colin McKeever enjoyed a double at Loughanmore last Saturday, so his runners will have to be respected here, with Scottshill showing promise before falling at the last at Largy last season in a race won by subsequent sales topper Getabird, whilst Ravensdale is a well-bred newcomer and Caviar Dallen was sent off favourite for his debut, and they are others to consider alongside General Consensus.

RALEAGH MOUNTAIN was sent off as a well-supported favourite at Loughanmore last Saturday, and whilst he was unable to justify that market confidence, a big run was expected, so it may be worth giving him a second chance here. Fellow track recruit Newstart has finished fourth in a maiden hurdle in the past, whilst Rossamilan was third in a maiden at Broughshane last May.

HIDE THE BISCUIT finished second in a Bumper at Down Royal in August for Mervyn Torrens and that is the strongest recent form which ensures the she sets the benchmark in this. Patsy Milan finished a fair fourth in a four-year-old maiden against geldings at Rathcannon just over 12 months ago, when just 11 lengths in arrears of the subsequent wide-margin Killarney Bumper winner Product Of Love and she could be a big threat if close to that here, whilst Nickel finished second at Toomebridge in a small field contest and enters the race in good form.

Despite a number of leading pointers entered here, they would face a stiff task to upset ROI DU MEE as he makes his pointing bow having enjoyed Grade 1 success under rules. Rated 153 on the track having been last seen finishing third in a Grade 1, he is sure to be the star attraction if taking up this engagement. The David Christie-trained Valmy Baie won three-times last season, having also finished in front of Quiet Account when the pair met at Largy, which should give him the edge over that rival, whilst Milan Flyer is back with Gary McGill, having won three times under rules for Noel Kelly.

ONE COOL CLARKSON is a very capable horse for this level on his day, and whilst he has not won since 2014, he has finished placed on the track and in open company behind some decent performers, and sets the benchmark. Talkischeap defeated subsequent Tinahely victor Manitowoc County at Lisbeg in a 4yo Maiden last season, and whilst he was disappointing at Tipperary in a Bumper, he is worth taking a chance on here. The Dermot McLoughlin-trained Hazinowings has already enjoyed success at Toomebridge, although his recent efforts have been beset by non-completions, whilst the sole mare in the line-up Lady Jameson is in receipt of the 5lb mares? allowance and she won well at Tinahely.

NETTLEBUSH finished third behind subsequent Listed Bumper winner Death Duty in a Bumper at Down Royal on his first career start 12 months ago, and whilst he has been unable to follow that up in four subsequent starts under rules, if he was capable of returning to that form he should go close. The Bantown Lane was well-beaten in two starts for Donald McCain and it will be interesting to see how he fares on his first start for Stuart Crawford here, whilst Itll Do Rightly and Flabello have placed points form to their name and can get involved.
