Track Biography:
It is with thanks to William Duffy and the Duffy Family that this wonderful facility has been made available to The Ward Union to host this important meeting on the point-to-point calendar.
Based on the foresight and dedication of such stalwarts as Standish Collen and the Craigie Family back in 1963, together with the technical skills of Clerks of the Course Ted Kelly and Al O’Connell, The Folly became known as a fair but testing challenge for horse and rider. This high standard is maintained today by the present Clerk of the Course, Paddy Griffin and his Team.
After a break from 1974 The Folly welcomed back The Ward Union in 2012. In the intervening years various other venues were used but thanks to the generosity of the Duffy Family The Folly has again become the ‘Home’ venue. This is a worthy tribute to the memory of John A. Duffy and his neighbour and friend Pat Rooney.
The solid foundations laid down by this of yesteryear still stand as values held high by The Ward Union organisation of today.
A track like The Folly gives us all the opportunity to see young hopefuls fight it out for glory and it is likely you can watch the same horses and riders competing at the highest level a year or two later, even at Cheltenham itself.
How To Get There
By Road
From Slane directions - Straight through Ashbourne, as you leave the town on the Dublin road, you will come to a big roundabout, take first left (signed for Swords) off this which is the R125 Donaghmore road, follow this road for about 2.5 miles until you meet a crossroads, take the left for Garristown it’s the R130 follow this road straight for about 3 miles and you till come to ‘The Folly’ on the right hand side.
Coming from Ratoath road, it’s the second exit off the roundabout to R125 (follow directions above)
Coming from North Road/ M50 it’s the 4th exit of roundabout onto R125 (follow directions above)

One of the opening four-year-old maidens of 2017 with all entrants set to taste their first piece of competitive action. Many of the leading producers of young horses are represented here, however it may be worth noting whichever of the Gordon Elliott-trained runners line-up here given his strong recent record in the race which has seen him saddle Caliption, Gunnery Sergeant, Stone Hard and The Nephew, to win the last four runnings of this race.

The Colin McKeever-trained RAVENSDALE brings a notable piece of form into this race having finished behind both Cool Getaway and King Of Kilmeague at Tattersalls before Christmas, with that pair both subsequently selling for six-figure sums at the sales. A re-production of that Tattersalls effort should see him as the one to beat here. Jack Devine finished second on his debut on this card 12 months ago as a four-year-old, and he has since finished placed a further three times. A consistent sort, he is sure to be involved and this track will suit. Stand Down, Coole Hall, Myoldman and Kreadan Gale are others to consider.

Preview
The locally trained SIZINGDOWNTHERHINE was only narrowly beaten by the star pointing mare Maple Mons in a Hunter Chase at Wexford, and she has subsequently advertised that form by winning a further two races. Coming here fresh following a break, the Alan Potts-owned gelding sets a strong benchmark in this. The unexposed Jammin Masters outclassed his rivals in a taking performance in an older maiden at Dungarvan on debut and he is the pick of the opposition. Grianan Fidh is proven in open company but is without a success since taking a British point at Lydstep in 2014, whilst Suas Sios bring course form to the race having recorded a popular local success in the older maiden 12 months ago.

VALMY BAIE, a three-time winner in open company last season, was well below par when pulling-up in the Hunter Chase at Down Royal over Christmas. However he can return to winning ways here as he is a high class sort on his day. Home Farm could re-appear quickly after recording an impressive battling success at Tyrella last Saturday and he would be a notable danger. Grand Jesture won well at Loughbrickland but blotted his record once again when refusing to jump off at Down Royal, whilst Darwins Fox can be expected to step-up from his pointing debut at Tinahely in what was a very hot race.

The Brian Hamilton-trained BI QUINI TIEP was narrowly beaten at Kirkistown in a small field contest prior to Christmas, and he can make his first start in older maiden company a winning one. Drimsree Lad has been lightly raced to date having finished an encouraging second on debut at Monksgrange, whilst he was in the process of running another good race at Rockfield on his seasonal re-appearance when coming down on the final circuit. A clean round of jumping could see as the danger for an in-form yard, whilst Captain Cj is another who can figure.
