Track Biography:

The Killultagh Hunt dates back to 1610, originally a Stag hunt, with scarlet livery. In 1832 Killultagh joined with the Old Rock harriers, whose livery was a dark bottle green. A short time later they amalgamated with the Earl of Chichester private pack, whose livery was old gold. They then became known as the Killultagh, Old Rock and Chichester Harriers. In the late 80’s the hunt changed from a harrier pack to a fox hound pack.

The Killultagh Hunt has been running Point-to-Point’s since the late 1800s, during the war the race was held near the old Enkalon site, in Antrim known as ‘The Bog Meadow’s’. In the 50’s and 60’s they located to Pigeon Town, Glenavy. Then moved to Ballyarnot, Aldergrove. Then Lennymore in Crumlin.

Our present meeting is held at the excellent location on the Largy Road, by kind permission of Dr Peter Fitzgerald and Randox Laboratories.

The new track is right handed, a slight incline from the last fence to the finish, with excellent viewing for the public as the whole course can be viewed from the main book makers/viewing area. A day out at Largy point-to-point is a perfect day in the countryside for all the family.

By Road

Take the M1 North from Dublin, Exit at Junction 9, take Moria/Airport road (A26), travel 9 miles to Nutts Corner Roundabout. Follow race signs to location.

From North West, follow signs to Belfast International Airport and take the A26. Travel 3 miles to Nutts Corner Rouandabout. Follow races signs to location

Our point-to-point is located less than 15 minutes from Belfast International Airport and under two hours from Dublin Airport.

The Colin Bowe-trained EUR GONE WEST finished a very creditable third behind one of this years most impressive four-year-old winners in Stay Humble at Ballynoe. A big run has to be expected on that basis here. Stable companion Risky Gold is another with good form in the book whilst Burrows Edge finished third at Tyrella on debut and he could get closer here. There are a host of well-bred newcomers and the market will give an indication of what is expected from them.

BACK TO BATAAN was only touched off by a neck at Kirkistown in February in a race which has worked out particularly well with three subsequent maiden winners already having emerged from that. He can be expected to add to those winners here. Some Response was running a big race on this card 12 months ago when coming down at the final fence whilst still holding chances, whilst Le Aqua, U No Like and Tom Tom Turnaround are others with claims.

There were plenty of hard luck stories in that contest and having not been beaten far on that occasion, this drop back in grade should be rewarded. Bollmann Lady makes her seasonal re-appearance and having won well at Curraheen and will likely be suited by conditions, whilst Longhouse Music defeating geldings to get off the mark at Belclare earlier this month, and that entitles her to plenty of respect in this.

The former holds many alternative entries across the weekend but if running here he has the stronger form in the book. SKYHILL ALLSTAR has been running reasonably well of late and as he enters the race in good form, he could be the one to beat in a wide-open contest. Isle Road was well held in third when refusing at the last at Loughanmore on Monday, in a race which the potentially re-opposing Liberty Vane fell at the second-last in, whilst Galbraith could be a danger if returning to his Maralin form from the autumn.
