Track Biography:
Clonakilty’s annual Point-to-Point races are held on historic Inchydoney Island on the lands of Leslie & Emily Beamish who kindly provide us with this fabulous venue. Having started as a millennium project, the Clonakilty Point-to-Point meeting has grown beyond all expectations and is now regarded as one of the most outstanding meetings of its kind in Munster.
Since moving to our present location on Inchydoney Island, we have attracted even larger crowds from both near and far, which has helped even further in presenting Clonakilty as a wonderful place to visit and stay. This event is not only for horse enthusiasts, but has also proven to be a great family day out over the years.
We are very lucky to have a large committee of hard working volunteer racing enthusiasts, with each member being more dedicated than the next, under the stewardship of the Clerk of the Course.
Our Committee at Clonakilty Point to Point like to recognise and celebrate some unique achievements. In the past we have done well with “Imperial Call”, “Newmill”,” Why So Mayo” and “Sir Frederick”. We have also had a horse called “On the Fringe” which was bred locally by Pat Tobin who has created an incredible record by winning the Hunter Chases at Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown in 2015, repeating first again in 2016. Horses rarely win at these three meetings, but his mother (Love & Porter) was sired by “Sheer Grit” and this fellow certainly has that.

By Road
From the Bandon Road Roundabout at Cork take the N71 West for 46km until you arrive at Clonakilty. At the Clonakilty Roundabout stay on the N71 and the course is well signposted along the road.

Cork Airport is only 50 minutes (49 kms) from Clonakilty

NAPOLEON BLUE emerged with huge credit when going down by just a length in a similar event at Dawstown recently. Colin Bowes charge made steady progress throughout and having joined the eventual winner on the run-in, he ultimately just came up short. He looked a winner waiting to happen on that occasion and should prove tough to beat if lining up here. Fifty Shades made his debut recently for Sean Doyle and wasn't disgraced when finishing in sixth place. He looked the type to improve with that run under his belt and rates a danger alongside the Gerard Kelleher-trained Crossley Tender.

The Milan gelding was a final fence faller on debut and again came close to winning, when beaten just two-lengths at Stradbally recently. He can be assured to give his running and looks the most likely winner. King Of The Clothe will represent the inform Donnchadh Doyle string and comes into this having finished three-parts of a length ahead of the selection last time out. He produced a good winning time on that occasion and under similar conditions looks the one to side with. Lord Getaway also represents this seasons current leading handler and arrives here in good form having finished fourth at Curraheen late last month. Imperial Oscar for Willie Codd gained a deserved maiden success when last seen and should put it up to the selection.

MAPLE MONS has been a most consistent type and notched up win number four on the pointing circuit this season, when winning at Necarne recently. The Great Exhibtion mare is a four-time hunter chase winner this season and looks the one to side with here for handler David Christie.
