Track Biography:

Rathcannon point-to-point has played host to many Hunts over the years and more recently to the Limerick Foxhounds & the Limerick Foxhounds Bruff point-to-point committee.

Many talented riders and horses have graduated from the Limerick Foxhounds point-to-point both when racing on the past venues and presently at Rathcannon.

The track itself is a left-handed course and has been in operation since 2008.

Our race meeting is situated just 40 minutes from Limerick city and just half an hour from the scenic town of Adare, making a trip to Rathcannon point-to-point part of a perfect Family Sunday.

How To Get There

By Road

From Limerick, take the M20 and at junction 5 exit onto the N20 Cork/Croom road. Stay on the N20 until you reach Banogue at which point the point-to-point will be sign posted from there. The race track is two miles from the village of Athlacca.

By Air

Shannon Airport is a 45 minute drive from the point-to-point.
Cork Airport is located an hour and twenty five minutes away.

We have an extensive car parking area which offers a brilliant view of the whole track. This allows you to bring your picnic in the boot of your vehicle which you can enjoy with your family and friends during the day’s racing.

In our bookmakers ring you can view and bet on any off-course races on the day in both England and Ireland.
 

Food

 

We have outside caterers who supply a variety of tasty hot foods such as burgers, sausages and chips along with confectionaries for children of which all are reasonably priced.

If you would a treat for the day we also have an ice-cream van in attendance.
 

Beverages

 

Our outside caterers sell teas, coffees and soft drinks to keep you warm during your days racing.

There are also two pubs in the nearby village of Athlacca where there is always a great welcome and atmosphere for patrons before and after racing.

Is there a dress code for point-to-points?

No, we do not have an official dress code we just advise our race goers to stay warm and dry for your days racing and to prepare yourself for all types of Irish weather.

Yes, we allow dogs to attend the point-to-point. However, we do ask that all dogs are kept on a lead at all times.

Yes, we welcome visitors to bring their own picnics.

At our point-to-point, we are lucky to have wide open spaces for children to play in a safe environment.

No we do not provide an ATM so we recommend that you make a stop at an ATM on your way to the races.

Amenities

Athlacca point-to-point is the perfect day out for the family in the countryside and as an added bonus for parents all children U16 have free admission.

Race goers have the opportunity to get a close up of the action when the runners are being saddled and paraded in the parade ring before their race. The fence in our home straight allows you to get a perfect viewing point of each race whether you are on foot or in the comfort of your car.

With Limerick city only 30 minutes from the track, there is an endless amount of attractions to keep you busy within the area. The picturesque town of Killarney is only an hour and half drive from the point-to-point.

ORDER IN COURT was not beaten far at Oldcastle on his only start and having finished fifth for trainer John Paul Brennan, he should be able to build on that and play a leading role here. Benruben and Darlac look the most likely dangers of those with form. The market should prove a good guide to what is to be expected of the newcomers in the field but Landofsmiles and Chasethefield represent trainer Donnchadh Doyle who has sent out plenty of four-year-old winners this season. Gowithflow and Great Fairy are others to note from the formidable Denis Murphy yard.

If putting in a clear round, he should take a bit of beating here. Must Havea Flutter has placed on his last two runs and looks to be an improving sort. CLEAR SYMBOL improved following a short break and failed by just a length on her second start for trainer Andrew Slattery. The Presenting mare looked more at home on the better ground conditions and under similar underfoot conditions she can continue to improve. Silver Louna showed her best form on the point-to-point circuit when finishing fourth at Largy in mid-April. That form looks decent and you would expect that she will have learnt plenty for that effort. Mahler Style for Paul Pierce looks best of the remainder.

The Touch Of Land gelding had been a consistent sort earlier this season and if none the worse for that recent fall, he can be expected to post a good display here. Shower Cross failed to build on the promise he had shown on debut, when finishing sixth in a bumper at Cork. Back between the flags here, he is sure to make a bold bid for trainer John Walsh. The Canford Cliffs mare sprung a slight surprise that day having come from a flat bred background, but it was hard not to be impressed with the manner of her victory. Baby Bee was a winner on her only career start and there is no reason to suggest she cant get involved here. Recent winner Presentingprincess and Midnight Monarch are best of the remainder.
