Track Biography:

The North Down point-to-point moved to its current course at Kirkistown in 2006 and have held three meetings each season since then. The course is located towards the eastern side of the Ards Peninsula near the village of Portavogie.  It’s in an area that was used as an airfield during the war and hence is very flat and well drained.

Kirkistown is a very level left handed course run over a circuit just short of a mile. Runners jump two fences close to the spectator’s area and a further three along the back straight.

Our November fixture is normally the final meeting of the autumn calendar in the northern area. Conversely, our February and March fixtures are two of the earliest in the northern spring calendar.

Some of the leading graduates from our point-to-point include Simonsig, Petit Mouchoir & Agus A Vic.

PILOT STATION was unlucky to come down at the last in Castletown last April when sure to go close in a small field contest, and he again parted company with his rider on his return at Dromahane. A return to his opening effort would give him claims. Always On The Ball was a beaten favourite on debut, but the well-bred Kapgarde gelding is sure to come on from that promising fourth and can go close, as to can Shanroe AL C, whilst Getaway North is a well-bred newcomer.

The Gerald Quinn-trained QUESTIONATION was unable to justify favouritism at Loughbrickland last weekend when disappointing, as she had run a big race at Portrush prior to that is certainly capable of getting off the mark on that evidence. She is worth a second chance in a race like this. Tourgar Pure Gold stayed-on late to take second on her pointing debut at Tinahely and she would look the big danger. Alices Star and Crawfords Mill are others who can enter the reckoning.

LAGGANSTOWN was staying-on powerfully in the closing stages to get within a neck of success at Quakerstown in April, having shown promise in two previous efforts. Having his first start for Peter Flood, a yard who have already had a winner this season, he looks the one to beat on the form. Davy Street finished in front of subsequent winner Upsettheodds at Tinahely on his debut, whilst the twice-placed Some Response and Rules Of Law are other dangers.

ADAMSTOWN has decent form to his name in open company and he ran a cracking race on his return from 19 months on the side-lines to chase home the impressive Burning Ambition at Loughbrickland last Saturday. He would be very deserving of a first success since 2013 here. Ballyhowne and Canadian Steel, a previous course winner are both last-time out winners and they would look to provide the pick of the opposition.

Former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner LORD WINDERMERE would be the star attraction if taking up this entry in a very interesting contest. David Christie could be responsible for the main dangers in VELVET MAKER and Sambremont. The former was quietly fancied for the Grand Annual at Cheltenham in March and could be a high class recruit on his first start in this sphere. Seventh Sky is another interesting former track horse, as he is a former winner of the Tommy Whittle Chase and was fourth in the Grand Sefton last season when with Charlie Mann, whilst Yes Tom went close at Portrush.

It is unusual to see the Barry Connell colours with an older maiden in point-to-points and therefore his INTERNAL TRANSFER is of interest in this following two runs on the track. Knockan Run was unlucky not to make a winning debut at Largy last season, as he made a notable mistake at the final fence which proved costly. Although disappointing at Broughshane a week later, he has the pick of the points form. Broadmeadow Bridge has plenty of placed form to his name, although he has not been seen that often since finishing second at Oldtown in 2014 and has changed yard since then.
