Track Biography:

The Golden Vale hunt was revived by Tim Hyde and Michael Purcell.

The hounds were hunted by John Pickering, James Foley, Capt. Donald Swan, Rory Dicken, Tom O’Meara, Jim Quinlan and presently by Michael Comerford.

The point-to-point has been run annually at various venues. The first meeting was held at College Hill Templemore and has since been run at Thurles racecourse, Fairyhill Templemore, Coolkip Horse and Jockey, Glenbane Holycross and now at its current venue of Turtulla Thurles.

GOLDENCARD chased home recent Chepstow winner Chooseyourweapon at Inch on his debut last season and he can be expected to have improved for his reappearance run at Tinahely last month when finishing fourth to a smart type. Darsi In The Park has been unlucky not to complete in two starts to date as he had been running well on both occasions prior to his departure. A clean round of jumping should see him in contention, alongside the twice placed Shanroe Al C.

LAGGANSTOWN holds entries at all three fixtures this weekend and is sure to be a leading contender at whichever engagement he takes up having gone close at Quakerstown last April. Turlough is a very well-bred rival who showed promise at Dromahane in May. This half-brother to Voler La Vedette and Hennessy looks the pick of the dangers, whilst the consistent Three Loud Knocks, who finished out last season with three consecutive placed finishes can once again enter the mix.

The Aidan Fitzgerald yard is in flying form at present and it would be no surprise to see LARA TROT leave her run at Castletown-Geoghegan on the opening day of the season well behind her. She had finished a close third at Tralee on her debut in late May and that looks the pick of the form here. The likes of In Arrears, Cloudy Day and Kilnesare Kate, all have placed form in the book and can get involved.

WILCOSDIANA made an impressive return to action at Rathcannon last month when running out a wide-margin winner over the potentially re-opposing Bloodstream, and there is no reason why she cannot extend her winning ways this season. Victoria Bay had won a competitive four-year-old maiden at Inch in April and she is the unknown quantity in this race as she has her first outing in winners company having finished seventh in a bumper. Phone Booth, who returns back between the flags, is another for the shortlist.

QUARRY RUA was a winner at Ballindenisk on two occasions last season and having beaten Western Man, a horse who went close at Dromahane last Sunday, with the latest of those victories, that form has received a boost and he could start his new campaign on a winning note. Former Grade 1 winner Sir Des Champs failed to get his head in front in six starts last season but was rarely too far away, whilst the five-time winner on the flat, FIRE FIGHTER, is an interesting sort who has been off the track for some time.

Having finished 10-lengths in front of Hawk Eye Down at Lisronagh on his seasonal bow last month, ORCHARD HILL looks to be the clear selection for this after that horse won well at Ballinaboola last Sunday. Lough Carrow is sure to keep him honest having twice finished placed including at Dowth Hall more recently, whilst Emerald Chieftan and the consistent Flaxen Moonshine cannot be discounted.
