Track Biography:

The Killeagh Point to Point race meeting has been held on the land of Joe and Bernie Hennessy at Knockane for over 30 years. It is generally held in the middle of January.  With one of the best viewing tracks for spectators over-looking all five fences, the atmosphere at the finish is often electric according to the jockeys.

It is one of the most accessible Point to Point courses in Ireland with its location only 1.5 miles off the N25 (Cork/Waterford Road) with the excellent road network leading from all corners of the country.

The Committee of Killeagh Point to Point has a large number of racing aficionados from the local community including Owners, Trainers, Breeders and Jockeys to name a few that help to make Killeagh Point to Point as successful as it is. Local volunteers contribute their free time to the committee who take pride in the fact that the sport is thriving in rural Ireland.

Our fixture typically draws a large entry each year with horses and trainers all over Ireland running their horses here at our track.  For more information, check out our Facebook page Killeagh Point to Point or Twitter @KilleaghP2P

Just one of the sixteen entries in here has any previous form and that is the Colin Bowe-trained Its All A Lark. The Oscar mare, who also holds an alternative entry at Tinahely, has twice finished third, most recently at Knockinroe. The market will give a good guide as to what is expected of the newcomers.

SPEEDY CARGO posted a notable career best when he finished a fair third behind the impressive Beakstown at Turtulla. That experience will stand to him here. Connard was an expensive store purchase who was running reasonably well on his debut at Mainstown before coming down at the penultimate fence in the race won by Straight Red. Darrio Naharis, who has twice finished fourth, and the returning Calvary Scout are others for the shortlist.

Having posted a dominant performance to outclass her rivals on her way to a 16 length success at Mainstown just over a month ago, Longhouse Music is on somewhat of a recovery mission as she disappointed at Limerick over Christmas. Therefore, preference is given to the consistent BLOODSTREAM, who has twice finished placed at a higher grade. Of the more recent maiden winners, Cloudy Day beat two subsequent winners when scoring at Turtulla and she could be of note in this.

BERBORU jumped notably well from the front at Dromahane when offering plenty of encouragement to finish second on her seasonal reappearance. Disappointingly following that effort, she came to grief at Borris before Christmas, however a clean round of jumping should she her as the leading contender for this. Illtellmema took a big step forward when finishing second most recently, but that was aided by a large number of fallers, whilst track recruit, Bold Sky, has finished placed under rules, having been running on the track during the summer for Henry de Bromhead.

A potentially red hot open lightweight with a host of possible winners, but it is hard to look past the Grade 1 winner LAC FANTANA, who achieved far more than his rivals under rules, and although he is a novice over fences, he could be a class recruit to this sphere. Sweet As A Nut was fancied for the Foxhunters at Cheltenham, and he will look to get back on track on his seasonal reappearance. A Decent Excuse, a three-time winner already this season, Minella For Value, who should come on for his return effort at Ballindenisk, Boulta third B L Swagger, and the former promising hunter chaser, Winter Magic, who makes a welcome return to points, are amongst the contenders in a high class renewal.

Preview

Troll Doudairies would be a very deserving winner having hit the crossbar in each of his last four starts and his consistency will surely be rewarded this season. However, the well-bred GLORIOUS GALWAY, a 72,000 euro purchase as a three-year-old, will be expected to go on to better things and he could be worth following in this. Oscar Nomination has yet to recapture his form from last season, but would be a threat if doing so here, whilst newcomer Macs A Marvel will carry the famous colours of Whyso Mayo and is sure to have his supporters.
