Track Biography:

The Pigeon Hill Committee and the Carrigtwohill Committee amalgamated in 1958 to form the Pigeon Hill & Carrigtwohill point-to-point Committee.

They have organised a Point-to-Point in the Carrigtwohill area ever since. 2018 is the 60th Anniversary of this race meeting.

So make sure to keep Sunday 28th January 2018 free in your diary.  It promises to be a day of festive celebration in Carrig, as the local Point-to-Point committee celebrates their 60th birthday.  Traditionally race day has been an occasion when the people of the parish came out in large numbers to enjoy a day of fun and activity.  To mark the 60th milestone, this years’ meeting has been designated as a Family Fun Day with special emphasis on entertaining the young in a safe, enclosed children play area, with Bouncing Castles, Face Paining in the marquee and other entertainment while the adults enjoy the races and maybe back a winner with the bookies.  A special welcome is extended to the relatively new members of the Carrig community, whether they come from at home or abroad, who might be first time racegoers.  We will also have photographers on duty to capture all the action of the day and take PHOTOS of racegoers for inclusion in our History Book.
Full details of all our special offers are on the Pigeon Hill and Carrigtwohill Point to Point Facebook Page.

History Launch
The second even to celebrate reaching this historic milestone, is a book launch on the History of Pigeon Hill and Carrigtwohill Point-to-Points.  This will take place in the Spring time at a date and location to be decided.

This book will comprehensively cover the events and personalities surrounding our races for 60 years.  This involves four different racecourses in Ballyadam, Ballyrihard (Curra), Clyduff and currently Ballyvodock.  It will conclude with a comprehensive feature on this years’ festivities.  A hardback copy of this book and an invitation to the launch, will be one of the prizes in or on-course free raffle on race day.

INFORATION REQUEST: With a view to ensuring all worthwhile material is included in the book, we are asking anyone with old paper cutting, photographs, race cards or other memorabilia or stories relating to past races to make them available for inclusion.  They will be copied and the originals promptly returned.  Please contact Ollie O’Connor 087 7545755

SPONSORSHIP REQUEST: The committee would like to take the opportunity to make a special request, through this publication, to any industrial and pharmaceutical plants, businesses or individuals in Carrigtwohill to come on board as part of a select group of main sponsors for our History Publication. Those interested please contact Terence 086 2268359, John 086 2573347, Sean 086 85752121 who will be happy to discuss your offer.

The excellent condition and quality of the Ballyvodock track historically has attracted a large number of entries from owners and trainers from all over Ireland.

The course at Ballyvodock is now in its fourth year and this track has found favour with both owners/ trainers and with the public as it is a big galloping track with a marvellous natural viewing stand. They race for two and a half circuits of the course in an anti-clockwise direction.

Our free parking is located close to the finishing straight which allows race goers to get a close-up of the action from the comfort of their cars if they wish.

We also provide a disability parking area with fence viewing on the home straight.

In our bookmakers ring you can view and bet on any off-course races on the day in both England and Ireland.

The course will have a tent with soup and sandwiches for sale which are prepared by some of our committee members.

We also have an outside catering vendor which has a variety of catering options for sale from burgers and baps to chips.

Each year we also have an ice cream van in attendance.

Race goers can avail of the wide variety on offer.

There will be teas and coffees available from our hard working volunteers in our catering tent.

We would also recommend sampling some of our home-made soup.  The perfect 'warmer upper' between races.

Whilst our outside caterer will have a range of minerals on offer.

Something to suit all members of the family.

No, we do not have an official dress code we just advise our race goers to wear warm clothing and wellies.
Dogs are very welcome, but need to be kept on a lead at all times.
Yes, we welcome visitors to bring their own picnics as they are an integral part of the point-to-point experience.
At our point-to-point, we have a bouncing castle and face painting in the marquee for our younger race goers.
No we do not provide an ATM so we recommend that you make a stop in the nearby town of Carrigtwohill on your way to the races.

Traditionally race days have been an occasion when the people of the parish came out in large numbers to enjoy a day of fun and activity.

To mark the 60th milestone this year’s meeting has been designated as a Family Fun Day with special emphasis on entertaining the young in a safe enclosed children’s play area with a Bouncing Castle and Face Painting in the Marquee and other entertainment while the adults enjoy the races and maybe back a winner with the Bookies.

This has the marking of quite an open race and it may be that the Philip Fenton-trained GROODY ROVER can improve upon his third to Chance Finale at Boulta before Christmas to take this race. Global Fame will be a definite danger having run well in a big field maiden at Tattersalls Farm in December, whilst OFaolains Lad cannot be discounted after running his best race to date at Aghabullogue last time.

With little other placed form on offer, it could be worth taking a chance with the Colin Bowe-trained Quivvy Lough, a horse that offered promise in her early starts but she has slightly lost her way since taking on geldings in a four-year-old maiden at Loughbrickland in the autumn. This could be an ideal opportunity for her. Shallow Run has been a consistent performer and represents in form connections, Maifaitzs Madonna was second over hurdles in May, whilst Robinella finished fifth on her debut at Templencarriga.

WEST CORK WILDWAY brings four-year-old maiden winning form into this having got off the mark at the first time of asking at Boulta before Christmas. It would be a disappointment if he could not follow up against older horses in this. Mister Murchan took a big step forward at Aghabullogue last month when benefiting from a change of tactics to come from off the pace and win an older maiden in very comprehensive fashion and he is certainly capable of putting up a big showing here. The Best In Town was another notable maiden winner last time, whilst Kiera Royale ran a cracking race in hunter chase company last month and is sure to run her race.

It is hard to oppose anything from the Declan Queally yard at present given the form of the horses from that yard, and although he is represented by a newcomer here, MEMORIES FOREVER, she will be looking to follow in the footsteps of her dam who won her maiden point at Killeagh for James Sheehan. Of those with experience, Cappa Doce had previously finished placed in a Boulta four-year-old maiden back in 2014, but he has struggled of late.

THEFLICKERINGLIGHT created a big impression on her debut with an impressive success at Aghabullogue, and whilst she does have to take on more experienced winners here, she will surely step up from that promising introduction. Givemylovetorose is the obvious alternative having won twice in the autumn, whilst Kilbree Shadow did not run her race at Boulta last month when falling at the last and she could certainly bounce back here.

Just six horses have been entered for this race and BRIGHT RHETT will likely be a very short priced favourite to avenge his narrow defeat at Templencarriga on what was only his first start in 11 months. It would look a big upset if he was not to win this. Major Milan has plenty of placed form to his name, and whilst never a factor on his return to action last Sunday at Kilfeacle, he is sure to have improved for the run.
