Track Biography:

The Golden Vale hunt was revived by Tim Hyde and Michael Purcell.

The hounds were hunted by John Pickering, James Foley, Capt. Donald Swan, Rory Dicken, Tom O’Meara, Jim Quinlan and presently by Michael Comerford.

The point-to-point has been run annually at various venues. The first meeting was held at College Hill Templemore and has since been run at Thurles racecourse, Fairyhill Templemore, Coolkip Horse and Jockey, Glenbane Holycross and now at its current venue of Turtulla Thurles.

We also provide a disability parking area with fence viewing on the home straight.

There is portaloo’s available on the day.

In our bookmakers ring you can view and bet on any off-course races on the day in both England and Ireland.

Whether you want to watch in front of the winning post, as the runners flash by, venture into the centre of the course for a full 360 degree view of the track, or why not base yourself at the final fence to take in the wonderful sight of a thoroughbred racehorse in full flight over a fence? The choice is yours - you will never get any closer to the action!

One of the real joys of a point-to-point is just how close to the action you can get. That also includes our car park, ensuring a day's racing with us offers you the ideal opportunity to being a picnic for family and friends, and base it out of the back of your car.

Come along early and enjoy your picnic before the action gets under way, or take a break midway through the day's racing to enjoy your light refreshments.

If you are after something a bit warmer, we also have a catering unit on-site, serving a range of fast food such as burgers, sausages and chips, all you would need to keep you going.

Tea, coffee and soft drinks are available from a number of outlets on the course.

There will be something to quench your thirst or curb your caffeine cravings.

For a post racing tipple, why not check out the Enclosures Bar at the nearby Horse & Jockey Hotel or head into Thurles Town.

No, there is no dress code for the races. Please ensure to dress warmly though !
Yes, please just ensure to keep them on a lead at all times.
Yes, of course! It is a perfect location for a picnic from your boot. Or why not treat yourself to some deliciouc snacks from our on-course catering or pop down to the local Horse & Jockey Hotel after racing.
We are lucky enough to have wide open spaces for children to play in a safe enviroment.
No, we do not have an ATM on course. Thurles town is not far from the course and there is an ATM in the service station on the way into the town.

The Clondaw Premier point-to-point is the perfect day out for the family in the countryside and as an added bonus for parents all children U16’s have free admission.

Race goers have the opportunity to get a close up of the action when the runners are being saddled and paraded in the parade ring before their race. The fence in our home straight allows you to get a perfect viewing point of each race whether you are on foot or in the comfort of your car.

With Thurles town only a five minute drive from the track, there is a large selection of shops and restaurants to keep you busy within the area. Thurles is also steeped in GAA history as it is the birthplace of the Gaelic Athletic Association founded in 1884 by Hayes’ Hotel. Thurles is also home to Semple Stadium which is the second largest GAA stadium in Ireland with a capacity of 53,500.

JP Flavin has his string in good form this season and HIT THE FRAME could become his third point winner of the campaign if backing up the promise of his debut at Boulta in November. A close fifth on that occasion, he might just have the edge over the Lingstown third Millforce. Interestingly, Humdilla was sent off as the favourite for his debut at Borris House last month only to be carried out, whilst newcomers from either the Colin Bowe or Ellmarie Holden stables would have to be respected.

The grey GOGO BAGATELLE only found one rival too good when making her debut at Boulta last month and with that form having been boosted over Christmas, it is hard to go against her here. Hollow Rodger finished second in this race last year when it was confined only to five-year-olds and has two solid efforts behind her so must rank as a danger on her return, with Bennys Jenny, who posted a career-best at Lingstown last time, and the twice placed Sophie Gold among the others to have shown definite potential.

The last four runners in this sphere that Ellmarie Holden has sent out have all returned successful and given that stable form HITAK could well continue the winning streak. He took a big step forward when jumping from older maiden success to winning an open at Dromahane. That latest success came at the expense of Winged Leader, and it is his stablemate Ramillies who is the big threat. He ran a big race for a long way at Down Royal over Christmas, only to give way late. He is also a winner around here from November, whilst the returning Somptueux has a good record fresh and he won on his seasonal re-appearance at Bellharbour last year.

DJO DELA BARRIERE finished third behind the recent Grade 2 winner Loughglynn in a Punchestown maiden hurdle in November, and his connections look to have found a very winnable opportunity for him to return back between the flags. Cicero Grimes was placed twice last year, whilst Graigue Corner got within six lengths of subsequent bumper winner Flemensface at Knockanohill last season and if recapturing that form would be a contender.

WEST OF CARRIG has had to chase home the now three-time winner Dont Matter Now twice at Boulta this season, but with that rival not here, he could gain a deserved success in this. Peggys Rock won her maiden well at the start of the season and is interesting back from a break, whilst I Masked Du Potier and Top Of The List are others that catch the eye.

Preview

TOTTENHAM GREEN had a busy end to last season, but he showed plenty of promise finishing within two lengths of the now three-time track runner-up Cleatus Poolaw at Fairyhouse in April. A reproduction of that performance on his seasonal re-appearance would certainly leave him as the one to beat. Jack Go, a homebred for Cathy OLeary, made an eye-catching debut in very testing conditions at Tattersalls before Christmas, whilst Meetmeathepillar made a promising return from a lengthy lay-off at Boulta. Cicero Grimes and the 95-rated hurdler Be Fierce are others to note.
