Track Biography:

We run a two-day point-to-point each spring beside the grounds of Durrow Abbey House and Durrow Church which was founded by St Columba in 553.

The back straight runs right in front of the beautiful Durrow Abbey House and makes the point-to-point one of the most picturesque meetings in Ireland. The grounds of our well-presented race track, with its compact location of parade ring, bookies, finish line and services give a pleasant race day experience close to the action.

Our point-to-point is located 10 minutes away from the town of Tullamore which has an abundance of pubs and restaurants as well as plenty of shops and popular tourist attractions such as Tullamore’s large distillery which makes Tullamore Dew, a popular Irish whiskey.

Cormac Doyle won this race 12 months ago with Jeroboam Machin but it is his brother Sean who is responsible for the horse with the pick of the previous form this time around with PARISH QUIZ. He was only beaten by just over three lengths on his debut at Punchestown in a very promising introduction. Three Zambezis also has the benefit of an opening effort, having finished last of four at Knockanard over the short 2m4f trip, whilst Wakey Wakey Man finished fifth at Ballinaboola.

GOOD CODY had chased home a subsequent hurdle winner at Ballycrystal in the autumn, and whilst he may have disappointed at Farmacaffley following a winter break, it could be worth giving him a second chance here. Djo Dela Barriere may have been expected to have won his maiden given this Punchestown hurdle form against Loughglynn before Christmas, but he has fallen in two of his last three starts, whilst Custom Taylor made a promising debut and could be one to step forward.

SHANTOU PRINCESS took a big step forward at Lisronagh last time, and despite being a beaten favourite in each of her two starts to date, her supporters could well recoup their losses here. Ciaran Murphy is responsible for two of the dangers with Fire Force and Deravarra Rose, with the latter potentially making a quick re-appearance having finished a close second at Belclare last Sunday, whilst the 85-rated hurdler Ar Aghaidh has changed stables since her latest outing and could get involved on her return to this sphere.

The form of the last two runs for BIG GIRL BETTY have been boosted of late with Howya Luveen and most notably Gorthill franking the form, and she could be the one to side with here. Fancy Prospect opened her account at Tallow last month and is chief among the dangers alongside the consistent Lady Mags who has finished either first or second in each of her last three starts.

WINGED LEADER gained his 15th point-to-point success in good style at Belclare last Sunday and this could be a nice opportunity to gain a hat-trick of wins on the bounce. De Nordener has taken his races remarkably well of late, but does have an easier alternative engagement at Ballyragget. Of the others, stable newcomer Flaming Moon is a previous Listed winner, whilst Prophets Corner and Nibbles finished first and second at Nenagh last time, and the former would hold definite place claims.

Preview

THE LAST MINUTE made a promising debut in testing conditions at Comea last month in a race that has already produced a subsequent winner, and he could add to that here. Tottenham Green has been expensive to follow since chasing home track winner Cleatus Poolaw at Fairyhouse last season. His stable does seem to have turned a corner, which may see him take a step forward, but it could be Walk Easy that is the biggest danger, having finished second for the fifth time in a row last Sunday in Belclare.
