Track Biography:

Since 1945 Ballynoe has been noted for its well-staged and successful point-to-point meetings. The current racecourse in the townlands of Garryanne & Killavorilla has been in use since 1983. 1987 saw the introduction of the Waterford Co-Op Gain Final, now better known as the Gain Mares Final,  and has been going from strength to strength ever since. 

The 2018 running sees the continuation of the Gain Mares Bonus of €3000 presented to the winning owner by Gain Horsefeeds & Ballynoe Point to Point Committee. An always exciting finale to a thrilling series of mares’ races as any mare, a maiden at the beginning of the season, who places 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th, at any point to point in Ireland qualifies to enter the Gain Mares Final.

2018 also sees the introduction of an €1000 bonus being added to the 5yo & Upwards Mares Maiden, kindly sponsored by the O’Keeffe family in memory of their father, the late James O’Keeffe, one of the original members of Ballynoe Point to Point Committee in 1945.

A good galloping course with an extensive view for the spectators. A right-handed circuit of just over a mile. The Ballynoe fixture typically falls on the first Sunday of April except when that weekend is Easter weekend, and in recent years has generally moved to March 17th due to the congestion in the Cork Waterford Point to Point Circuit.

Previous noted winners on the track include, My Murphy who won his maiden in Ballynoe in 2011, and went on to win the Thyestes Chase in Gowran Park in 2016. Also Carter Mckay won his maiden in 2016, and went on to be favourite for the Champion Bumper in Cheltenham 2017.

How To Get There

Ideally situated 2 Miles from Ballynoe Village & 2 Miles from Conna Village, always well sign posted.

By Road:

From Fermoy: Take N72 towards Tallow, and follow the signposts for Conna, racecourse will be signposted along the way.

From Cork: Take R639 turning off before Rathcormac for Tallow R628 to Aghern, signposted from there.

From Waterford: Take N25 to Dungarvan, N72 to Lismore to Tallow town up from bridge then R628 for Conna to Aghern. Signposted from Conna.

By Air:

Cork Airport is only 40 minute from the Ballynoe point-to-point course.

Dublin airport is 2 hours & 30 minutes away with motorway road links from both airports.

Facilities

Free parking is included on site closely situated to the track, with a special area designated for disabled parking if required.

There are a number of portaloo’s situated around the course.

There is a betting ring on site for your on course bets, & some of the bookmakers present also provide betting for track racing.
 

Food

Ballynoe community council provide the catering facilities on course, providing Teas, Coffees, Soup & Sandwiches.

There are also a number of Fast Food outlets on site to cater for all your food needs. Confectionary stalls also on site to satisfy those with a sweet tooth.
 

Beverages

Race goers can purchase teas, coffees and soft drinks from our outside catering outlet or from our team of volunteers from the Ballynoe community council.

Is there a dress code for point-to-points?

No, there is no official dress code, but we do advise that race goers dress weather appropriate and to prepare yourself for all types of Irish weather.

Yes, we allow dogs to attend the point-to-point, but would ask that they are kept on their leads at all times whilst at the track. We also hold a dog show on the day.

Yes, picnics are welcome. We also have a range of catering options on course if needed.

We hope to cater for the younger race goers if the weather allows us. Check back nearer the time to find out what we have in store.

No, we do not provide an ATM but we our only a short drive from Fermoy or Tallow which have ATM facilities.

Amenities

All children under 16 have free admission. The local schools host a painting competition in the lead up to the Ballynoe fixture with prize giving on the day.

2017 saw the introduction of a dog show, due to popular demand & was very well supported, enhancing the overall race day experience.

In that time, he has sent out three winners in the age group, and he has a number of well-bred horses for leading owner JP McManus entered. They include Passage Guenot and Lord Fauntleroy, who were both bought for six-figure price tags at the store sales last year. It could be worth giving CASCANDO a second chance in this, as he made a couple of early errors in Dromahane at Christmas when attempting to follow up a promising introduction at the Mallow venue. Thatildojon also has a runners-up effort to his name, but the market support for him at Ballycahane a fortnight ago went astray when he unseated two-out, whilst the Tallow runner-up Spanish Dange is another definite contender.

ONE DAY IN MAY has been forced to settle for the runners-up spot in each of her two starts to date, including a particularly narrow defeat on debut in Dromahane. She could be the one to follow on her belated return to action. Ask Millie was only beaten three lengths at Ballycahane in a race which produced a winner last weekend to give that effort a timely form boost, whilst Dusky Night and Polly Piper are others worth considering.

Since winning her maiden at Punchestown in February, DEDUDEFROMHOUSTON has done little wrong with consecutive impressive successes, the latest of which was recorded in Borris House at the beginning of the month. Lucy Wang has the notable form of having gone close against the boys in open company at Comea last time, and like a number of these, she does have an alternative entry in Durrow, but if running here would be a danger. As would Oh My Jenny, Sworn Duty, and Time In A Bottle who were all closely matched at Knockanard last month.

She may not have been able to get her head in front since then, however she has posted a number of creditable efforts, including at Knockanohill just last Sunday. Tokens Glory ran well in a similar contest at Tallow last month, whilst Inch Alainn was placed at Castlelands, and is another for the shortlist.
