Track Biography:

East Down Foxhounds Point-to-Point course at Tyrella is situated at the foot of the picturesque Mourne Mountains made famous by the Percy French song.

With the 2018 Spring season, East Down will have been racing at Tyrella for fifty four years. Two meetings are held each Spring, in January and March.

Normally the first meeting of the Spring calendar in the Northern Region, Tyrella is a right handed undulating track where, given it’s close proximity to the sea and sandy soil is well drained and more often than not, produces good going.

This video from @NotFromHereStories gives you a snapshot of the picture-postcard setting that Tyrella point-to-point takes place in.

The luckless SKY BLUE RIBBON has fallen on each of her two starts to date, and although held when coming down at the last in Loughanmore last time, she was upsides a subsequent winner when departing. The potentially reopposing Order Another One was behind her when slipping up on the home bend on that occasion, whilst Brian Hamilton won this race 12 months ago with subsequent hurdle winner Camlin Park, and he will bid to repeat the feat with the newcomer Zarina Sunset.

This looks like a tricky puzzle to solve with little previous placed form on offer. LORD DES FRESNES gets the tentative selection as he has fared best of those with experience, finishing fourth at Portrush in the autumn. The form of that race has worked out quite well, producing another winner last weekend to offer a timely boost. Libero also finished fourth when making his debut at Kirkistown in November, whilst Beat The Ballot did manage to finish third at Loughrea, but has failed to finish his two starts since, so the newcomers would have to be considered.

Second in this race last year, BOLD FURY will bid to swiftly bounce back from finishing tailed off at Thurles last Sunday by going one better this time around, with his Down Royal effort on his penultimate start undoubtedly the standout piece of form in this. Hearts And Spades is more consistent, having brought up a hat-trick at Dromahane last month and is the obvious threat, whilst Sharp As Glass finished second in a competitive Turtulla heat a fortnight ago and should not be discounted.

Successful in this race 12 months ago, CARNFUNNOCK made up some good late ground at Down Royal over Christmas to finish sixth, beaten just six lengths, and the Curraghmore winner could well double his tally for the season. There were some more promising signs from the former Irish Gold Cup winner Conflated in tough conditions at Aghabullogue a fortnight ago, whilst Ballyphilip is entitled to have stepped forward from his return to action when second in Turtulla.

TIME IN A BOTTLE may only have gotten as far as the second fence on her chasing debut at Gowran in November, but as a 102-rated hurdler that has been placed four times on the racecourse for Henry De Bromhead, she looks to be the pick of these for what will be her stable debut. Barely Made It is another ex-track performer to have changed stables, but she has a lengthy absence to overcome, so it may be another returnee, Colegram, who has more to offer on this occasion.

West Of Idaho is long overdue a breakthrough victory, having been a beaten favourite in each of his last four starts. Two late falls have contributed to that, however he was well beaten at Kirkistown last time, so he does need to bounce back. JETAWAY SHELDON has finished second in his last two starts, including on stable debut last time in tough conditions at Turtulla. He might be more at home here. Tony The Pony was placed on his first completed start in Tinahely recently, whilst the track-placed Atlantian was still in contention when falling on his point debut two weeks ago.
